![]() This gave Digidesign way more credibility than Steinberg, Cakewalk, EMagic, etc. No other company could guarantee how many tracks could run. ![]() Historically - before computers were fast enough for native digital audio processing (2ghz-3ghz) - Pro Tools required a proprietary DSP card (or cards) and would guarantee “buy this many cards to handle this many audio tracks”. They also integrate way better with other apps. Design-wise it feels very outdated.įor my purposes Ableton, Hindenburg fx are options that are well designed, easier to use and look and feel way more current. The same goes for the websites, the i-Lok etc. I get why there are loyal users, but anyone who calls PT a "crowd-pleaser" and intuitiv is either one of the "in-group" or ignorant of what else is out there. The more I learn to use it, the more I appreciate some features, but in general it feels like AVID and PT can do everything, but is designed with a clear group of "pro" users in mind and a somewhat "arrogant" businessmodel and design philosophy. Ultimately it feels like an app designed by- and for engineers, which I am not. Protools has the import function of certain file formats only available for Studio-version and up. For example, who in this age wants to have a USB stick in order to use their software? Or alternatively have to be logged in online ( and then if you don't have internet access it doesn't work.) I made audio documentaries and work with other apps like Descript. While I don't hate it anymore, what I really dislike is the clunky "design". I'm forced to use PT for work (and have only used it for about 1,5 years). ![]() I think it crashed on me twice in the last 6 months, and it could have been a plugin issue. I'm not sure why people complain it's not stable because it's at least as stable as every other daw, one anedoctal case of one guy on reddit saying it kept crashing is not automatically that it crashes for everybody. One hand on the keyboard one on the mouse and I'm set.įor instance, I tried reaper many times and lately the lack of aaf or omf importing was simply a strong NO for my case. The combination of old keyb shortcuts and mouse, maybe because I'm used, is imho the fastest around. ![]() The editing is top notch, routing is flexible, the software these later years has been evolving finally like something modern and they keep adding stuff, it's everywhere, it's powerful. That said, it's still after all these years my go to. r/MixClub /r/ListenToThis /r/Music /r/RadioReddit /r/LearnMusic /r/Reasoners /r/AudioPost /r/GameAudio /r/RateMyAudio /r/StudioPorn /r/SFXLibrariesĢ0+ years user, and I used A LOT of other daws too in the same span.īack in the days, Digidesign first and Avid after had terrible software development, were often behind the curve, their customer support was, and still is, lacking, the pricing is complicated and absurd and PT has often been among the most expensive.
